Automation with AUT code instrumentation

Many tools perform object recognition by enabling automation of controls within the AUT by recompiling automation-tool-specific libraries along with the application code. This is especially important for Android devices where fragmentation is rampant and there are numerous screen size variants available in the market.

So this technology is not suitable for projects where testing teams are not allowed access to application code or with organizations that may not be willing to rebuild their applications with external or third-party libraries. Tools such as Jamo solutions and Monkey talk have this kind of object recognition feature without the need for rooting or jail-breaking. Zapfix allows users to either do rooting of devices or to instrument the application code. Ranorex requires code instrumentation also, which it then utilizes with its RanoreXpath object recognition mechanism, which is based on both the object properties and the object hierarchies along with relative screen coordinates.
